Sen. Escamilla Receives Utah Medical Association Distinguished Legislative Service Award

SALT LAKE CITY– Senator Luz Escamilla (D- Salt Lake City) was presented with the Utah Medical Association’s 2019 “Distinguished Legislative Service Award” at the 125th annual meeting of the UMA House of Delegates. The award recognizes her distinguished service in the Legislature, as well as her dedication to healthcare legislation benefitting Utah patients across our state.

Senator Escamilla has committed her career to ensuring that all Utahns have access to affordable, quality healthcare. In recent years, she has worked to protect the rights of medical cannabis patients, ensuring that at-risk first-time mothers have access to both prenatal and postnatal care, and advocating for full Medicaid expansion. Senator Escamilla has also passed legislation ensuring that Utah’s children are able to receive vision screenings before attending a public school. We congratulate Senator Escamilla on this well-deserved award and thank her for her efforts.
